Gingivectomy

This procedure is used to remove excess gum tissue that can be the result of certain medications, the way the teeth erupt or inflammation. This procedure helps make oral hygiene easier and more comfortable as well as improves esthetics. In some cases this procedure is needed during orthodontic treatment to all for the repositioning of brackets during tooth movement, as gum tissue can overgrow during braces. Certain medications also cause the gum tissue to over grow and make the teeth appear short. This overgrowth of tissue results in deeper pockets around teeth and can lead to bone loss if not addressed, because bacteria will grow in larger numbers below the overgrown gum tissue.
