Frenectomy
This procedure is completed to help close the space between teeth either before, during or after orthodontic treatment. This is also completed to prevent recession as the muscle attachment can pull on the gum tissue and cause the gums to shrink away from the teeth.
The area is numbed with local anesthetic and a small incision is made to remove the muscle attachment, the base of the muscle attachment is then scored to prevent reattachment of the muscle back in the same site. Sutures are then placed to close the area and allow for faster healing.
