Biopsy
This procedure is completed when an abnormality is noted on the gum tissue, tongue, cheek, or lip. It is used when tissue looks suspicious and helps to catch oral cancer and other growths early. Complete removal or partial removal of the tissue in question can be completed and will be determine based on the size, location and appearance of the tissue in question. The tissue is sent off for an oral pathologist to examine it under a microscope and provide a definitive diagnosis.
